Flinx Father,

I just finished the book and have a few questions, however I must wait. I don't want to spoil it for anyone else.

I loved it though, It was well worth the wait!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Please say it's not the last Flinx & Pip journey.

If it is the last I will have to say I will be somewhat "bored" from now on.

Luke

Hey, out here in San Francisco, and I went to Borders bookstore at Union Square on the sole mission of getting the book right off and the Borders employee checked the release date and according to the computer it's due out in May 2009, yet I'm getting conflicting information.

I bought a ARC (Advance Reading Copy) off ebay. A little pricy but I couldn't wait. I will also buy it when it is released in hard cover.

Right on, LukeH! I know that feeling only too well, man, but I'll just have to wait. Yeah, I'll purchase the hardcover. Peace.

How in the world do you buy a "reading copy" and what exactly does that look like?? I mean is it a finished think like a paperback or loose pages or what? lol

Thanks in advance

Mark

It is in book form, like a trade paper back, it is a proof copy for reviewers to read and write a review in advance of publicaion. It may or may not be the final published version, but should be pretty darn close considering Alan wrote is over 2 years ago.

I just finished the novel after 2 days and I must say that I am suitably impressed! Although the ending was a bit of a "Deus Ex Machina" it was enjoyable none the less. Out of Fosters previous hardback Pip and Flinx novels I have picked up I must say I enjoyed this one the most next to 'Sliding Scales". All of the one previous to that I have in paperback.

I'll add myself to the choir of people that enjoyed your book. ;) I got it this morning and just finished reading..

The only thing is that I wished we could have seen or learned a bit more about the Xunca. (So mysterious!)

I hope you'll write some more Commonwealth related books. The Pip and Flinx series as well as the Founding of the Commonweath books have been some of my favourites recently - a shame I hadn't heard of them until a year or two ago.

Despite what it says on the cover of FT, Flinx is still alive and kicking (and complaining, and worrying) and marriage or not, there's no guarantee something might not draw him and Pip elsewhere.

Woohoo,
Although glad to get resolution, I was truly in sorrow that one of my favorite series might be ending.

9 hour reading marathon and done...

Very nice wrap up, although I'm not a big fan of string theory I went along with it :-)

Was this originally going to be 2 books? His adventures with the AAnn could have been a book by itself.

One question, did all that transpired help with his headaches?

I went straight to Borders bookstore at Union Square on the day of it's May 19th release....

Clarity will help with the headaches...but remember, he still has the same physical/mental makeup. Less stress now, to be sure, but perhaps he might need to see a doctor. Possible story there, I think. We'll see what time and publisher interest brings....

I would like to see Flinx & Co. re-unite with Maxim Malayka(sic) on a new exploration trip into the Blight. Maybe something to bring more common ground between the Commonweath and the AAnn. And throw in some help from Skua..........

Finished reading and I experienced genuine surprises, excitement, suspense, anticipation,eagerness....well!

Taken aback or stunned or maybe I did a double take as to the moments, as I regard them, that constitute the aftermath of a resolution.....

**Well, I am trying not to reveal anything, Mr. Foster Ha ha!

Alan,

What's with DelRey, why can't they get the list of your titles in the front of your books right or complete?

They missed a few of the latest Flinx books in the "Final Adventure" (yea right).

As a writer does this bother you?

Have you ever traveled to the Great Lakes/Canadian Shield area of Canada. I spent a lot of time on and around the Georgian Bay area growing up and always thought the landscape was a little otherworldly.

I finished it last night, and I really enjoyed it. It was a bit sad realizing the end of a journey that I have been reading for 30 plus years now. Hopefully you can find a few more stories for Flinx now that he has worked out saving the Universe and closing out most of the past issues.

Flinx Clarity and a family could be an interesting tale. Having a three year old at home I can tell you the possibilities are endless...

Hi Alan. Read Transcendent in a couple of days - immediately on release, of course - and gave the rest the 'adf friends' time to express their views, while I thought of a way to say, simply: Thank you. I guess that's really the best way to sum up the gratitude for having you take us all on this journey. We all appreciate the 'Universe' you have created for us - our favourite place - where we can walk alongside people we know so well. You have given us a great many friends - and will, we all hope, continue to do so. Thus, Thank You, so very much, for sharing Pip and Flinx with us. Long may our friendship and our journeys together go on. Rob.

I think Rob expressed my views much more eloquently than I could have done. It reminded me a bit of the last Star Wars movie - all major playors appeared and their stories wrapped up neatly - quite a trick given the complexity of the story that has developed over the decades. To throw in my $0.02, I note that the timeline shows the Ulru-Ujurrians undergoing an epiphany when their tunnel digging is done. I'd love to hear that story! They are among my favorite characters.

Thanks for 30+ years of entertainment, Alan.

You're all welcome, and more to come. Perhaps even more Flinx & Pip...once he gets bored enough.

It's hard to top saving the galaxy....

Hi alan, saving a galaxy is a big thing..but with his mind still growing methinks flinx`s mind is going to be the tops..

I can't really do a series based on With Friends Like These because years later I took the same idea and did so...THE DAMNED (Del Rey).

Well i think i`d better read The DAmned again..seems i missed the idea totally alan..thanks mate..keep well
